Sep 09, 2017  This hack as a patch 'Dream of Five V4 Release.rar' Create a new ups file with the rom as the original file and the hack as the edit. Name it 'fo5' so I have my.ups file. Patch is successful. Use the rom as the file to patch. The fo5.usp as the.usp file. Hit 'patch' and it says it has been done.

I need some information about these because i'm needing to replace some ips patches due to bugs on 'a certain emulator'. Which one is more appropriate for SNES and genesis patching, considering the intended use is to softpatch, not to distribute or hardpatch?

Since i want to replace ips softpatches into another format, i need to find command line tools to apply them in a.sh file in order not be very very bored recreating ≃ 80 patches. But i can't find a commandline switches listing for either tsukuyomi (ups) or beat (ups). Nor can i find a command line ips patcher which i also need.

Does this exist? Edit: To anyone that has the same problem, i found a alternative to hardpatching and then creating a new patch. This utility will convert any ips patch that needs a header to function to one that doesn't; without messing with the rom file (besides removing the header for it to work obviously). It'll produce smaller patches that compress better, even for systems that don't need delta patches like the SNES and Genesis. The main use case for UPS is if your patch also contains copyrighted data, and that's data you don't own the copyright to. In that case, your patch is the difference between two files, and doesn't itself contain any copyrighted data. But you pay for that in the form of no delta compression when you need it, and bad compression ratios.

Best patcher I know of is flips by Alcaro. I don't know if it has command-line support or not.

It would be up to the courts to try and determine, and given their track record with technology, you're probably right that you'd lose. In the most absurd case, you could release a patch that turns a JPEG of a picture you took and posted online into Super Mario World. Thus, the JPEG + the UPS patch = Super Mario World. And copyright even gets upheld these days for sites that index magnet links that direct you to people who direct you to lists of other people who happen to have copyrighted files. Unless you're Google, then it's A-okay. It's also worth noting that translation patches, right out of the gate, break international law by violating the Berne Convention. Copyrighted works don't allow you to translate them on your own without permission.

Still, it is something people often do. CPS2Shock released their decryptions for CPS2 games as XOR files. Dejap released graphics pack data containing all the copyrighted art for several games as XOR files. They didn't get sued, and if they did, they may well have lost. But, people do it all the same.

More reasonable companies like Sega would probably be happier and less litigious if your patch required the original official game image that they will happily sell you. Don't count on legal protection unless it's in writing.

In the most absurd case, you could release a patch that turns a JPEG of a picture you took and posted online into Super Mario World. Thus, the JPEG + the UPS patch = Super Mario World. Here's a slightly more absurd case: You release a patch that turns a zeroed-out file into Super Mario World:-). Obviously such a patch should be covered by the original copyright. Here's another thought experiment: You generate a file with quantum randomness, then patch against that.

You then get your computer to randomly switch (or not switch) the patch and the random one-time-pad, so you don't know which is which. Because of the way randomness works, even though the ROM is full of structured, regular data, the patch and the pad are statistically indistinguishable. Now, if you release just one of them you may not get in trouble -- after all, it's just random noise. If you release both of them, though, you definitely should be breaking copyright -- if this is legal then we've just invented a legal end-run for all kinds of filesharing.

I definitely agree that the pragmatic questions are just as important as the strict legal ones though (to the extent that such things can be said to exist.) • • • • •.

In the world of, there are two types of files are created, these are the IPS and the UPS files. Some Pokemon ROM hacks are created in IPS and some are in UPS file extensions. You cannot directly play any of the games on your emulator with these files, rather, you need a file patching software to make it work. Lunar IPS Patcher If your chosen game is in IPS file extension, you need an IPS patcher and the most favorite and popularly used tool to patch IPS is the Lunar IPS Patcher. Patching with Lunar is pretty straightforward and will take only seconds. Follow the tutorial below to patch your ROM and make it work on your favorite GBA emulator for playing for your favorite Pokemon game. Please note that Lunar IPS patcher is a.exe file, meaning, it will work only for Windows PC, for Mac users I have a separate tutorial created just for you or you can use Wine.
