HP support was useless. They told me my computer was no longer supported, and they no longer provide recovery CDs for older models. The support Engineer (salesman) then tried to sell me a new computer. Like I'll ever go near an HP computer again. I then found a site on the net that sells HP recovery CDs, so I bought a set for my hardware, not realizing that the same code purple error would exist with recovery CDs if the Bios is hosed. Next, I went to my local Geek Squad at Best Buy, and told them I had the recovery CDs, but needed my Tattoo restored.
The guy told me I had to purchase the Tattoo software from HP to restore the Tattoo. He couldn't be bothered. At that point, if a Certified HP Service Provider refused to help me, I knew I only had one option left. I managed to obtain an XP installation CD (reusing my XP license code attached to my computer) and wiped out everything from HP. I'm up and running, and will never buy anything from HP ever again.
The computer is probably the fastest its ever been, without all of HP's garbage installed. Lesson learned. Thanks, George.

From all of the threads I have seen with similar issues, they all say to run the command prompt as admin, but of course your supposed to use run this utility from DOS, so that really doesn't make sense, so just for kicks I tried it within the OS (win 7 pro 64-bit) and after trying to run it, I get the error stating 'this is not compatible with 64-bit system' Now granted the systems that I've replace HP MB's before were all 32-bit systems, but I find it hard to believe that would make a difference since its flashing the EEPROM. The program you need is NBDMIFIT, to create the USB. Use a 4GB or smaller if possible. I've run into problems attempting it on larger drives. I attempted to attach the file but it is forbidden by SpiceWorks. I can send it to you if you provide an Email.
This is irritating me so i did that and now it says vendor code not supported in this package. I did the uefi and then it ran thru to commit AMT & AT snd followed the menu, and then it told me to turn off uefi support which I did and now it won't run. The version he is using doesn't support his motherboard model, and that is why he is getting 'the utility can not be executed on this platform' error. So it has nothing to do with 32 or 64 bits. He may try his current version of the utility followed by a digit e.g. HPBQ15x, where x = [1, 9] that is from 1 to 9.
